About the Event

Iyengar Yoga Retreat
September 12-14
Robert Thurman and Carolyn Christie
Come practice yoga in the beautiful and peaceful setting of Menla Mountain Retreat with the intention to ready yourself for the teachings of the Buddha, given by Professor Robert Thurman. Yoga asana and pranayama lead the yoga practitioner to a place of relaxed inner stillness and space. It is in this state that one can truly be receptive and have special insight. The particular method of Iyengar yoga helps us recognize we all have access to a calm power of awareness. BKS Iyengar’s teachings emphasize this innate power of awareness as both the means and the end of the eight limbs of yoga.
Robert Thurman is Professor of Indo-Tibetan Studies at Columbia University, President of Tibet House U.S., a popular lecturer on Tibetan Buddhism, the translator of many philosophical treatises and sutras, and author of numerous books including the national bestseller, Inner Revolution: Life, Liberty, and the Pursuit of Real Happiness; Anger, the fifth book from a series on the Seven Deadly Sins, offered by The New York Public Library and Oxford University Press. His most recent book is titled "Why the Dalai Lama Matters: His Act of Truth as the Solution for China, Tibet, and the World", published by Atria Books/Beyond Words.
Carolyn Christie has been teaching Iyengar Yoga since 1995. She is a faculty member of the Iyengar yoga Institute of New York and has been travelling to India to study with the Iyengar family regularly since 1996. Carolyn has been studying Buddhist philosophy and practicing meditation since she was introduced to it while working for the Peace Corps in Thailand (1987-89).
