About the Presenter

Hung Kar Dorje Rinpoche is among the younger generation of teachers born and raised in Tibet. Recognized by His Holiness the Dalai Lama and other lineage holders as an incarnation of Do Khyentse Yeshe Dorje. He has received the Long Chen Nying Tig, Pema Nying Tig, and other treasure and oral lineages from his father, Orgyen Kusum Lingpa; from Do Drup Chen Rinpoche; from Katok Moktsa Rinpoche, and many others. Rinpoche fled Tibet on foot as a teenager in order to pursue his education in India, and under the guidance of the Dalai Lama spent five years studying within the Geshe curriculum at Drepung Monastery in South India. Rinpoche then agreed to return safely to China to assume his responsibilities as abbot of "Blue Valley" Thubten Chokhorling Monastery. His Gesar Foundation is the only private non-profit of its type in China, dedicated to preserving and teaching the culture of Tibet. The Shambhala Prayer Service for Universal Peace, founded by Rinpoche and held each year in Golok, brings thousands of ordained and lay people together from all lineages, from all parts of Tibet, China and other parts of the world, for five days of universal prayers drawn from all of the great dharma lineages. Rinpoche teaches widely in Tibet and China, and accompanied by Tulku Sherdor, in the U.S. and Mexico as well. A companion prayer festival is now held each year at Blazing Wisdom Institute in the Catskill Mountains of New York, over which Rinpoche will once again preside this year. Rinpoche is conversant in English.
