Volunteer

Volunteers play an important role in all areas of Tibet House US work. Volunteer positions are held in educational programs, gallery exhibitions, special events, Repatriation Collection/archive projects, lending library and newsletter. Projects may include research, visitor services, general office work, mailings, etc.

Please review the position descriptions before applying. Below are some volunteer positions that are available. There is a minimum requirement of at least two shifts each month, unless otherwise stated in the volunteer requirements.

Volunteer Opportunities 

Evening Educational Programs

Assist with set-up for the lecture and registration. Greet visitors. Some gift shop responsibilities. Assist with breakdown after the event. Ideal for people who are friendly, organized, excellent communication skills, good at trouble-shooting.

Gallery

Assist with upcoming exhibitions: updating signage, data input. Assist with archiving previous shows (images, press, etc.) Interest in art, organized, proficient in Microsoft word and excel and Photoshop. Basic scanning knowledge preferable.

Repatriation Collection/Archive Project

Assist with updating and maintaining cataloguing of the Collection. Updating labeling in permanent exhibition. Scanning photos and entering descriptions of objects. Ideal for those with interest in art, organized, proficient in Microsoft word and excel and Photoshop. Basic scanning knowledge preferable.

Special Events

There are a variety of volunteer positions for special events (annual benefit concert, auction, etc.) Time frame is based on event date. Meetings are mandatory. Ideal for those with excellent communication, diplomacy.

Library

Cataloguing new book donations. Re-shelving returned books. General library upkeep. Ideal for those with attention to detail, organized, knowledge of Dewey Decimal System and Microsoft excel.

Newsletter

Assist in compiling articles and information for the Tibet House newsletter. Updating/verifying directory listings, events calendar, editing articles. Knowledge of Microsoft word. Proficient in Quark and Photoshop preferred. Ideal for those who are good writers, attentive, detail-oriented.
