PRESERVATION AND PROMOTION OF TIBETAN ART AND CULTURE

The preservation and promotion of Tibetan art and culture is central to the Tibet House US mission. In fulfilling this mission, Tibet House sponsors ongoing exhibitions in the New York City cultural center gallery, create and sponsor traveling exhibitions, offer a forum for performance art such as dance and music, and maintain several important collections.

Since opening in 1998, the Tibet House Gallery has featured exhibitions of classical and contemporary Tibetan art, as well as modern and contemporary ar inspired by Tibetan culture. Exhibitions have included artworks from private collections and museums, as well as selections from Tibet House’s own Repatriation Collection. The Repatriation Collection represents an ongoing effort to conserve examples of Tibetan art and artifacts for their eventual repatriation.

The 2,000 square foot Gallery is open to the public and includes a traditional Tibetan shrine room, which is available to visitors for quiet contemplation and meditation.

Gallery Hours:  Monday through Friday from 12 to 5 p.m. Open to the public. $5 Suggested Donation
